“Not needed” – these two words came upon me two evenings ago. Next came the epiphanic thought that “not needed” is a good place to be.
“Not needed” allows one to explore unknown terrains and enjoy the landscape one is in. This is in stark contrast to the situations most people are in – “being needed,” either by choice or by one’s subconscious desire.
It feels good to be needed.
Yet, “not needed” may be a more appropriate and much needed state in certain seasons of our lives.
“Not needed” eventually leads one to journey inward into the labyrinth of one’s being, and yes, often times downwards as well. It forces us to return to the fundamental questions – Who am I? Where is my identity found in?
While this inward journey is perplexing and difficult, we are not alone. A Higher Being who cares for us is patiently watching over us.
Be strong and courageous to walk this terrain that has been marked out for us this season. By His grace, we will emerge different, with a renewed identity, as God’s beloved.
Our worth comes from who we are in Him, not what we do.
Our doing flows from our being. So, for our own good and for our neighbours’ sake, let us take time to pay attention to who we truly are.
I am thankful to God for the meandering journey in the wilderness the past four years, opening my eyes to the recesses of my heart which I did not know existed. He is gently leading me into another season, out of the valley of the shadow of death, onto pleasant green pastures, beside quiet waters. He refreshes my soul.
May those of us who are still deep in the labryinth continue to persevere and wait expectantly. God makes all things beautiful, in His time.
